A fine example of this style of wallclock, popular in the late 19th and earlier 20th century.
The movement of this two train spring driven clock has been totally overhauled. The clock case and movement retain all their original features with the exception of the 30cms enamelled roman numeralled dial which is a replacement. We will supply the original dial with the clock, just so that you have it, but the paint on the original dial, probably dating from the 1890s, is badly flaking and detracts from the clocks aesthetic appeal – that’s why we chose to replace it (always a difficult balance to maintain, between absolute authenticity and visual appeal).
The clock strikes on the hour on a cup bell – that typically rapid tinging chime of an American wallclock.
The pendulum is visible through a top hung hinged window panel. The right hand of the two hinges is in slight disrepair but works fine (all antiques should be handled delicately). We will supply with a replacement hinge in case you choose to use it; we judge on this one that the original installed hinge has plenty of life in it yet. There are some scratches to the marquetry case as you would expect, but they just add to its patina and authenticity.
And these clocks, which looked great when they were new, exude character and look even better with age.
